Other Information

Aegle was a Naiad or Okeanid nymph, the mother of the Kharites (Graces) by the sun-god Helios.

Other Nymphs[]

There are four other nymphs in myth by this name.

  1. The first is a Niad who was the most beautiful of the Niads.
  2. The second was a Nymph who stole the love of Theseus away from Ariadne.
  3. The third Aegle was one of the Hesperides who transformed into a constellation of the same name.
  4. One of the seven Heliades were seven nymph daughters of the sun-god Helios. When their brotherPhaethon was struck from the chariot of the sun by Zeus, they gathered around his smoky grave on the banks of the River Eridanos and in their unrelenting grief were transformed into poplar-trees and their tears into golden amber.

Notes[]

It should be noted, however, that the Kharites were usually described as daughters of Zeus and Eurynome.
